WMATA Metro Bus 1

Washington, D.C.

The WMATA Bus 1 Project encompassed the replacement of numerous systems including Electrical, Fire & Life Safety, Communication and Control Systems at six (6) WMATA Bus Maintenance Facilities and the addition of an integrated energy and maintenance monitoring system (SCADA) in several of the facilities.

CES provided upgrades to the electrical switchgear, panels, lighting, generators, fire alarm, public address and mechanical systems, as well as addition and replacement of site lighting. All work was performed in complete compliance with WMATA's stringent safety and execution policies and procedures.

The coordination and planning efforts were extraordinary to enable the seamless execution of the many phases of work including the replacement of hundreds of lights at each facility, the replacement of switchgear and emergency generator upgrades at several facilities and the total electrical backbone replacement at two facilities. All these challenges were successfully met and electrical power maintained for continuous operation of WMATA's 24 hour, 7 day a week operation of theses bus maintenance and repair facilities.
